Earlier Tuesday, the Union-Endicott 12A All-Stars began play in the New York State Little League tournament, and it didn’t lack excitement.
It took seven innings, but Jonah Conklin finally got U-E on the board with this bunt, scoring Jacob McTigue to tie things at one.
U-E is pumped up, and they should be!
Then, tied in the bottom of the 8th inning, Nick Lang stepped up to the plate, and sent one out of the park.
Lang comes through with a walk-off homer to give U-E the 2-1 win.
Afterwards, U-E head coach Mike Nyschot talked about his team’s confidence level coming off the dramatic victory.
“Some of our better hitters struggled with the bat a little bit today. But, we’ll get that confidence back tomorrow. And just belief again. A tough win like that, I think, is better than an easy win,” said Nyschot.
Next up for U-E, they advance in the winners bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
They’ll play again on Thursday against Wappinger.
That one is at 4 PM at Bronxchester Little League Field.
