Aside from the continuous weather postponements, the beginning of the 2019 regular season has been good to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
They find themselves sitting atop the Eastern Division with a 9-5 record.
On Thursday, Binghamton began a seven-game home stand, kicked off with four against the team currently in the Eastern League cellar, the Portland Sea Dogs.
Rowdy’s glad the team’s back in town.
It was a pitcher’s duel Wednesday in Akron, and another one at NYSEG Thursday.
Mike Gibbons on the bump for the Ponies, and he showed out tonight.
Gibbons lasted six innings and gave up only one run on five hits.
He also struck out nine.
However, his counterpart, Kyle Hart, and his fellow pitchers, did a number on the Ponies bats.
Hart went six and two-thirds with six K’s and didn’t allow a hit.
In fact, no Portland pitcher did as the Ponies were no-hit for the first time since Game 3 of the 2017 Eastern League semifinals against Trenton.
Portland takes this one by a final of 2-0.
The Ponies and Sea Dogs meet again on Friday night for game two of the series.
First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
