This spring, the Vestal boy’s lacrosse team made history by making it to the Class B state semifinals.
A big reason behind the team’s success this year was the strong play on their back end.
On Wednesday, a key member of that crew made his college commitment official.
Senior Mason Mabee signed his National Letter of Intent to play collegiate lacrosse at the Division II level.
Mabee, an All-Star defenseman and member of two Class B section championship teams, will take his talents to Mercyhurst University and join the Lakers lacrosse team.
Mason has had a great career on the field, including leading the D-Core in ground balls this year and, somehow, scoring four goals at the defense position.
Off the field, Mabee is a participant in Relay for Life and has been a member of Vestal’s Youth Police Academy as a cadet for three years.
After signing on the line, Mason gave some insight as to why he chose Mercyhurst to further his academic and athletic careers.
“Out of all the other colleges that I visited and had an overnight with, it was kind of like, when the recruits came to visit, they really didn’t know you well. So, they treated you like they didn’t know you. But, once you got to Mercyhurst, I love the coaches, I love the campus, and the team on my overnight made me feel like family. That really made my decision easy,” he said.
Mason is planning on studying Cyber Security Intelligence with hopes of getting an FBI Computer Intelligence position some time down the line.
Congratulations to Mason and best of luck in your future.
