Over the weekend, both the boy’s and girl’s basketball state championship tournaments came to an end.
Beginning Friday and ending on Sunday, we had 10 champions crowned between the two locations in Binghamton and Troy.
Unfortunately for Section IV, things didn’t exactly go as planned.
As far as things go here in Binghamton, only Marathon was still alive from Section IV.
The Olympians made it to the semifinals in Class D before they were taken down 68-65 to the eventual state champions, Harrisville of Section X.
Over at Hudson Valley Community College, three girl’s represented the section.
On Friday, South Kortright fell to Edwards-Knox 61-47 in the Class D semifinals.
Also Friday, Watkins Glen beat Millbrook to advance to the state championship in Class C.
However, on Saturday, the Senecas fell to Cambridge of Section II 57-43 in the title game.
After those two were bounced, only Seton Catholic Central remained.
The Saints advanced to Sunday’s Class A state championship game following a 59-57 win over Sewanhaka in the semifinals.
However, the Saints come up just short of their ultimate goal, falling in the championship game 59-50 to Mendon.
Some outstanding runs put on by these Section IV teams, and they should all be very proud of what they accomplished this season!
