Local Sports

A good turnout for the home opener, with people getting their first look at renovations inside NYSEG Stadium.

The Rumble Ponies taking to that new field for the first time this season, facing the Erie Seawolves.

It was a pitching duel early on as Erie starter Alex Faedo and Ponies pitcher Anthony Kay shut down batter after batter.

Faedo finished with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings, and it was 3 2/3 and 4 Ks for Kay.

It took until the bottom of the 4th until we finally got a hit from either team.

Andres Gimenez providing a spark for the Ponies as he legs that one out.

Then, Patrick Mazeika with a rope to center. That moved Gimenez to third.

And next batter, Will Toffey with a grounder to second.

Mazeika out at second, but Gimenez scores.

1-0 Binghamton.

Next inning, Barrett Barnes up, and Barrett Barnes out!

A shot to left just out of the reach of Cam Gibson.

Barnes’ 2nd homer of the season makes it 2-0 Ponies.

But, the SeaWolves bounced back for three runs in the 7th to take the lead.

But, the Ponies rallied in 9th to win this one, 4-3.

Game two of this four-game set gets underway Friday night at 7:05 pm.
