After a three-game sweep of the top team in the entire Eastern League, the Harrisburg Senators, last week, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies returned home to start a series with one of the teams towards the bottom of their division, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
After being doubled up 10-5 in game one of the series Friday night, the Ponies looked to bounce back on Saturday and Sunday.
Things didn’t look good early for Binghamton on Saturday.
After going down 2-0 after three innings, the Fisher Cats lead grew to 4-0 by the 6th.
But, the Ponies started chipping away, adding one run in the bottom of the 6th, and then taking a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th thanks to a two-out, two-run homer from Patrick Mazeika.
However, the Ponies pitching let them down in the top of the 9th, giving up two runs that they couldn’t bounce back from.
New Hampshire picked up the win 6-4.
Bingo’s opportunity to try and salvage a win on Sunday was washed away, as the weather continues to negatively effect the Ponies season.
With the rain falling again today, the Ponies and Altoona Curve are set to begin a three-game series.
But, we’ll have to wait and see if they can actually get their game in as scheduled.
