Blue Devils halt Warriors 16-3 to win Class D championship

Local Sports

Game one of the evening was the Class D battle between crosstown rivals Chenango Forks and Chenango Valley.

1st quarter, Jared Gage gets it to Kevin Matson.

And Matson with the spike to put Forks up 1-0.

CV with some fight early on.

Cam Krisko swings it to Tyler Hayes, and Hayes muscles his way to the goal.

Tied at 1 and looked like it could be a tight game early.

But…the Blue Devils had other plans.

Jake Topa to Caden Olmstead back to Gage.

That’s how you work the ball around.

Forks starting to take control.

Then, this is crazy impressive here.

Topa trying to shake the defender.

Instead, he just says ‘Fine, I’ll take you with me.’

The one-handed goal, showing off the strength.

And it would be Topa who led his team out onto the field at the end of the game to celebrate.

Forks wins it’s 3rd-straight section championship beating CV 16-3.

After scoring five goals and tallying seven points, Caden Olmstead was named Most Outstanding Player.

He says he’s just happy to be carrying on Forks’ winning tradition.

It’s great, man. You know, we knew we had potential right from the start. As son as we came in, first day of practice, our coach told us we have the potential. But, we need to just work hard in practice, he said.

Next up for the Blue Devils is the state regionals on June 1st at Corning.

They’ll face the winner of the Section III versus X subregional game.
