The Binghamton University softball team had been in full battle mode the last couple weeks of their regular season.
Needing to string together some wins to help their chances of making the America East Tournament, the Bearcats took two of three games from Maine two weekends ago.
But, they still needed some help.
And they got it in the form of a Maine loss to Stony Brook on Friday.
That lifted BU into the 6th and final spot for the tournament.
With that, the Bearcats drew the same SeaWolves team that helped them get in to the tournament.
After a long season, it’s normal to have some injuries on a team.
However, BU hasn’t played a game in a little over a week, and head coach Michelle Johnston believes that time off will help the team during their tournament run.
“We gave everybody some time. There were a couple of the girls that needed a little time off. So, we used last week to really be able to give those that needed it some time off. And then, also, be able to, we did a lot of individual work last week. Just kind of working on, we had them in small groups, offensively. And just working on little things that we think they need to be successful in order to have quality at-bats,” she says.
The Bearcats and third-seeded Stony Brook will get underway Wednesday at 1:30 pm, with the loser battling for their playoff lives again at 4 pm.
