Athlete of the Week: Section IV student-athletes

BINGHAMTON - With another high school sports season in the books, I wanted to take a look back at the best moments that the spring sports season had to offer.

It was an impressive one to say the least, and with so many deserving candidates, it becomes hard to choose a single stand-out athlete that deserves recognition.

So, this week, Section IV spring student-athletes; you are all my Athletes of the Week.

It was another impressive high school sports season this spring.

Student-athletes from all over Section IV continued to show why they are some of the most talented and competitive in the state of New York.

At the beginning of the the spring sports season, it didn't feel much like spring.

Many games were played in freezing temperatures, even in inclement weather, and sometimes, in borderline blizzard conditions.

But, no matter the weather, these games never lacked excitement.

There were highlight reel plays, dramatic game-winners, and, of course, some big time celebrations.

This spring, we saw Section IV teams tally 19 state tournament wins between baseball, softball, and both boy's and girl's lacrosse.

Building off that, seven teams made it to the state semifinals.

Of those seven, four advanced to the state championship game, and two were able to capture a state title.

And no matter who you ask, there's nothing like that winning feeling.

"It's great, you know.". "It feels great.". "It feels awesome. I mean, it gets better each and every time.". "Awesome. Amazing.". 'It feels great. I still can't believe it, it's so awesome.".

Great, amazing, awesome.

Those words not only describe feelings after a win, but also the outstanding play that we witnessed all year long.

It's hard to believe that the high school sports season is over until the fall.

But, this spring provided us with some outstanding moments that will last well into the future.

Thank you to all the student athletes in the area who made this spring such an exciting one to follow.
