Former Ponies infielder Jeff McNeil called up to the Mets

In a bit of good news somewhat pertaining to the Rumble Ponies, former Binghamton infielder Jeff McNeil is being called up to the show.

The New York Mets former 12th round pick is heading to Queens after raking in the minors this year.

Beginning the season in Binghamton, McNeil hit .327 with 14 homers and 43 RBI’s before being moved up to AAA Las Vegas after the Ponies’ June 14, loss to Altoona.

While in Vegas, McNeil’s hot bat continued, swinging .368 along with five homers and 28 more RBIs.

The Mets find themselves 14 games back in both the NL East and Wild Card standings, so maybe McNeil can help spark the team. Or, at the very least, give the fans something to cheer about.

McNeil will wear #68 when he makes his debut.
