Sitting at 2-6 overall midway through the season, the Bills are turning their focus to the Chicago Bears and an elite pass rusher in Khalil Mack. With uncertainty at the quarterback position, there are questions about how effect the offense, which has struggled, can be on Sunday.
Q: Should Nathan Peterman start on Sunday, what are the reservations or concerns that you have about where his confidence is at given the struggles that he’s had and the interceptions that he’s thrown at critical times?
A: Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from on that. Confidence is a challenge for every athlete, every performer out there. To keep one’s confidence high is also a challenge, and that’s where the mental toughness of the game comes in. We have resources in our building that assist us in those areas in order to keep confidence high, whether it’s with Nate or other players or coaches. That’s an important aspect of developing the total athlete.
Q: We talked about Nathan’s confidence, but what about the confidence that you and the team have in Nathan, given how fast his decline went from being opening day starter to be the third stringer, well, essentially the backup behind a guy you signed six days earlier?
A: I’m confident and I believe his teammates are confident in Nathan.
Q: Sean, I know you can’t predict injuries, but is there any part of you that wishes you would’ve kept a third veteran quarterback at the beginning of the season? Now, you’ve had to bring in two extras to kind of get up to speed in quick order to be able to play.
A: You always go back and evaluate decisions that were made or weren’t made. You have to understand the situations around those decisions also. Sometimes, as I’ve mentioned before, you’re able to do things that you want to do, and sometimes, you’re not able to do things that you want to do just because of the situation around the team at that time.
Q: As far as the learning curve for Terrelle, what would you think the prospects of him even being in for some playing time on Sunday?
A: Yeah, that’s a day-to-day thing at this point. Obviously, he got his first work this morning in the walkthrough here and we’ll take a look in the afternoon practice and go from there. I know he’ll probably spend, much like Matt, the rest of the afternoon and evening in the office here trying to get up to speed.
