Women’s History: Dorothy Gilliam

Through the month of March, NewsChannel 34 is highlighting the contributions and hidden histories of women across the country.

We begin tonight with a woman who helped break barriers in journalism.

Dorothy Butler Gilliam was the first African-American female reporter at the Washington Post.

Her stories helped give a voice to communities that were often overlooked.

As NewsChannel 34’s Brie Jackson shows us, her efforts have also helped pave the way for a countless number of younger journalists…

NewsChannel 34 will air a half hour Celebrating Women special featuring stories from across the country and here at home.

Showtimes are March 23rd at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. on WBGH NBC 5 and then again on March 30th at 5 p.m. on WIVT NewsChannel 34.

You can also catch other individual stories here.
