Waterman’s Distillery set to open in Apalachin this weekend

News

Our region’s newest craft distillery is set to open its doors this weekend.

Waterman’s Distillery is located on Route 434 in Apalachin near the Dugout.

It produces a corn-based, triple-distilled, 88 proof grain neutral whiskey that’s then mixed with a variety of creative flavors.

They include jalapeno ginger, root beer, blood orange and salted caramel maple.

Husband and wife Joseph and Michelle Alig have been working on the business for four years.

Michelle says everything is produced on site, using almost solely natural ingredients that are locally-sourced.

“What flavors are trending, what do people like? And thinking about the classical whiskey drinker, flavors that they may like, versus our millennial crowd where they like sweet and sour and things of that nature. So, for us, it was really important to have a well-balanced range of flavors,” she said.

The Alig’s chose the name Waterman because the barn it’s in once belonged to Fred Waterman.

And the whiskey have the brand 607 in honor of our area code.

Tomorrow and Sunday, Waterman is holding a grand opening celebration with food trucks and live music.

Admission is $10 and includes tastings and a free shot glass.

They ask that people purchase their tickets in advance at http://WatermansDistillery.com.
