Police have identified the man killed in Wednesday’s fatal tractor-trailer crash on I-81 in Binghamton.

Binghamton Police say 26-year-old Phillip Miller, of Homer, was killed in the accident that involved three tractor-trailers.

Police say he was employed by Venice Enterprises.

Police and fire crews responded to the area of I-81 Southbound in Binghamton near exit 3 Wednesday morning around 9 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the first truck stalled climbing Hospital Hill, causing a chain reaction accident in which all three tractor-trailers caught fire.

Miller was the driver of the second truck, and his trailer, which was filled with bales of recycled paper, was completely engulfed in flames.

Witnesses reported seeing tires explode and fly off of the trucks with debris spewing into the northbound lane.

The first trailer was transporting spaghetti sauce.

There is no word on what the third was carrying.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
