After 44 years at the Oakdale Mall, Van Cott Jewelers will be closing its Johnson City location.
Van Cott’s owner Bill Levine says the decline in foot traffic paired with the excessive rent led them to the decision not to renew their lease.
As a result, the Vestal location in the Town Square Mall will receive additional upgrades such as a Forevermark Diamond Boutique.
All the employees from the Mall will be able to work at the Parkway store.
Van Cott Jewelers started in 1914 on Court Street in Binghamton before adding a second location in the mall in 1975.
Levine says it’s the end of an era in the company’s history, but one that make sense. “We wished the opportunity could have been to remain. But for a thriving successful business like ours it’s hard to maintain momentum in a negative environment.”
Due to Van Cott’s inventory at their Oakdale Mall and Vestal stores being nearly identical, they will be holding a liquidation sale.
Starting tomorrow, anybody can buy jewelry from the Mall store at a heavily reduced rate.
Levine says everything will be on sale.
