Senior Maya McCollum was notified in early March that she will receive a National Silver Medal with Distinction for her entire portfolio from the National Scholastic Art Awards.

This is a first for any Vestal student! She is one of only 15 students in the nation to receive a Silver Medal with Distinction for their portfolio, and she will be awarded a second Silver Medal in the Film and Animation category for her work “Sound Box Animation!” As a Silver Medal winner, Maya has been invited to attend a ceremony at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on June 6, 2019.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers celebrates the creative achievement of America’s teens and, in 1923, founded the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in order to offer recognition and scholarships to students based on their artistic talents.
