WINDSOR, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – UPDATE: 4:36 p.m.
Around 7:15 last night, Broome County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 18 Gary Street in Windsor for a suspicious incident.
According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was an apparent murder-suicide.
53-year-old Kenneth Johnson and 47-year-old Tess Savage were found dead.
An investigation determined that Johnson and Savage were involved in a personal relationship, which recently ended. Savage visited the Gary Street apartment early yesterday afternoon, where she was strangled to death by Johnson.
A few hours later, Johnson took his own life via self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation uncovered that Savage had filed an order of protection through Broome County Family Court and that the two had a history of unreported domestic disputes.
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar says, “She willingly went there to visit Mr. Johnson. and based on the investigation, I can say that shortly after her arrival, it appears as though he murdered her. And then it was several hours after that, that Mr. Johnson took his own life.”
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Binghamton Police ID/Crime Scene unit.
Akshar says that both parties had multiple children that are now under the supervision of other family members.
More to come at 6 and 11.
