Despite a slight increase, Tompkins County’s unemployment rate ranks among the lowest in New York State, according to statistics released on Tuesday.

The State Labor Department statistics indicate that Tompkins County recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent in March 2018, in contrast to 4.0 percent in March 2017.

Tompkins County led Central New York, followed by Onondaga County with 5.0 percent.

Oswego County had the highest unemployment rate in Central New York with 7.4 percent.

New York County and Queens County tied for the best unemployment rate in the state with 3.7 percent.

Hamilton County has the highest unemployment rate in the state with 12 percent.
