Tioga County warns residents about the spread of Whooping Cough

The Tioga County Public Health Department is warning residents about the spread of a highly contagious respiratory disease.

Multiple cases of Pertussis, or Whooping Cough have been discovered over the past few weeks.

Symptoms of Whooping Cough include:

  • Rapid coughing followed by a “whoop,” sound
  • Coughing that results in vomiting
  • Exhaustion after coughing fits

Anyone with these symptoms should stay home to avoid infecting others, whooping cough is highly contagious and can be extremely dangerous to those with weakened immune systems.

You can protect yourself and your family by getting vaccinated, washing your hands often and avoiding contact with sick individuals.
