This Day in Binghamton History: The first execution (1871)

MAY 18 – Today in Binghamton history we have the first ever execution.

A man named Edward Ruloff was the victim, facing execution for the murder of his wife and baby.

While Ruloff was awaiting his fate in the jail yard, he received news that his constant companion and allegedly the only thing he ever loved, his pet rat, had also been the victim of a murder.
