This Day in Binghamton History: Horse carcasses found on South Street (1879)

MAY 17 – Today’s fact takes us back to 1879 and some melting snow.

Today in 1879 snow was melting throughout Binghamton.

In the process of that snow melting, two horse carcasses emerged on South Street.

It appears the dead horses were tossed in the snow banks over the previous winter.

Needless to say, the smell was horrible.
