This Day in Binghamton History: History of the Brandywine

News

JULY 28 – Today in Binghamton History we’re going to 1927.

Today in 1927 the draining of the Brandywine Swamp official begins.

Before it was a swamp, the Brandywine was a cranberry field owned by early settler Joshua Whitney.

It also served as a garbage dump for the City.

Now, of course, it serves as the Brandywine Highway.
