The Broome County Forum Theatre marquee goes digital

A hundred year-old staple in Downtown Binghamton has a bright new look.

State Senator Fred Akshar joined representatives from the local arts community to unveil a brand new digital marquee fro the Broome County Forum Theatre this morning.

Forum Manager Chris Marion says the upgraded marquee will allow the theater to better advertise upcoming events and increase ticket sales.

The new panels fit inside of the existing letter panel openings to maintain the classic aesthetic of the historical venue.

Marion says this project lined up perfectly with plans to upgrade some of downtown’s biggest attractions. “We have a long list of capital improvement projects that we want to see done over the next few years based on the feedback of the stakeholders that used this building. When we identify funding sources we look at what the project costs, what’s available in that funding source and where it falls on the priority list, and this really synced up well.”

A $125,000 state grant was secured by Senator Akshar for the project.

Marion says after all costs are calculated for the marquee there should be funds left to make another upgrade to the forum mentioning the bathrooms as a possibility.

A separate grant of 100 thousand dollars was secured by Akshar for infrastructure improvements to the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
