SUNY Broome holds Giving of the Toys

Students and faculty from a local college are once again working to ensure it’s a joyous holiday season for kids in need.

For more than 20 years now SUNY Broome has held its annual Giving of the Toys.

More than 60 offices, departments, clubs, athletic teams, and campus organizations present toys to Santa at the Student Center.

The gifts are then sent to the local Toys for Tots campaign.

Student Volunteer for the toy drive Abigayle Bennett says the event really captures the spirit of the holidays. “It’s really great. Honestly I think our generation so far a lot of older people think we are not as selfless. It’s really nice to see college students and younger people giving to the community and really helping out.”

Many of the organizations bring toys that coincide with their organization.

For example the women’s soccer team donated soccer balls and the maintenance department donated toy trucks.
