A locally made wine had its unique taste recognized nationally.
Sovereign Vines won the award for the Best Hemp Terpene Product at the IndoExpo in Colorado which is one of the nation’s largest cannabis trade shows.
The Terpene category recognizes the best unique product created by adding flavor from a hemp plant.
The company produces hemp infused wines at their facility in Johnson CIty.
Sovereign Vines competed against a wide selection of companies from across the country.
CEO Kaelean Castetter says his father started producing hemp infused wine in 1997 and they’ve been working on exposing it to mainstream consumers ever since. “We’ve put in the leg work for the past few years to educate the consumers here to create good products and come out with new products and really try to hit the regular wine market. Recognition of that as a great product in and of itself not just a great wine or hemp product but a great combination of the two is really great.”
Sovereign Vines’ line-up of hemp infused wines can be found at liquor stores and restaurants across the region.
Castetter says they are also in the process of opening a tasting room on Skaneateles Lake.
