Southern Tier Actors Read, or STAR presents The Devil’s Disciple

A local theater group is bringing together a who’s who of local actors for a staged reading at the Phelps Mansion Museum this weekend.

Southern Tier Actors Read, or STAR, is presenting “The Devil’s Disciple” by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw.

Written in 1897, the play takes place in Colonial America during the time of the revolution and centers around a love triangle that includes a preacher and an outcast who proclaims himself the devil’s disciple.

The 12 member cast ranges in age from 15 to the 80’s and includes such well-known local actors as Bill Gorman, Claus Evans, Judy McMahon, Heidi Weeks and Jim Michalec.

Actor Chris Nickerson is instead directing this go round.

He says Shaw is one of the most brilliant writers in theater history.

In a staged reading, the actors perform at music stands with a few costume pieces and props.

Showtimes are tomorrow and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 3.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.
