NYC considers update to watershed recreations rules, includes Cannonsville Reservoir near Deposit

New York City is considering updating its rules regarding recreational opportunities on and along its drinking water reservoirs in the Catskills.

That includes the Cannonsville Reservoir near Deposit.

Among the changes being proposed are an extension of the boating season from the current Memorial Day to Columbus Day to May 1 to October 31.

Sailboats would be banned from the reservoirs.

The length of fishing boat tags would go from 2 years to 4 years.

And a limit would be set on the number of boats one person can store along the water.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is planning a public hearing on the proposed changes on July 26 in Margaretville.

It will take place at the Telephone Company on Academy Street starting at 6 p.m.
