NY State Police investigate a Johnson City cold case

News

New York State Police are looking for the public’s help in solving a murder that took place in the early 1980’s.

19-year-old Bessie Williams of Johnson City was reported missing in 1983 after she didn’t return home from picking up her paycheck at the Quality Inn Lodge in Endwell.

Two years later, skeletal remains of Williams were found in the woods near King Street in the Town of Barker.

Forensics determined her death was a homicide.

Initially, police tried to identify a suspect whose vehicle was towed from a nearby field.

The car was reportedly a 1970’s white hatchback with reddish brown interior and the suspect was described as intoxicated with a “pot belly,” work boots, jeans, and a blue windbreaker.

Anyone with information about this cold case can contact the New York State Police at 607-561-7400.
