ALBANY, N.Y. (NBC NEWS) NBC News projected Governor Andrew Cuomo as the winner of the New York Governor race.

Polls closed at 9 p.m. in New York State.  Shortly after, incumbent Governor Cuomo looked to have beaten Republican challenger Rob Astorino.  Astorino had been elected twice in Democrat-leaning Westchester as County Executive.  he ran with Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss as his Lieutenant Governor.

During his acceptance speech Tuesday night, Cuomo energetically said, “We said that we would not be pushed or pulled by the extreme forces on the left or the right, that we would always remember the guiding star is service to the people and the entire enterprise is about helping the student the patient the taxpayer the citizen. And it’s not about the growing the bureaucracy or the lobbyist or the special interests.”
