National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA)


Broome County, NY —  National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) announced 4 cemetery locations in Broome County have once again joined in the effort to support the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, as an official locations for 2018.  

Savage Family Center in Binghamton, their 5th year, as local coordinators for the event increasing the number of cemeteries being served to 11.  This is the Fifth year that Peter Savage is conducting the local effort for this national December event.  “We are working to represent as many local veterans as possible.  2018 saw a tripling of interest and Donations for local Vet wreath placements” Stated Savage, Owner of Savage-Demarco Funeral Service.

Locally, volunteers will be laying wreaths and share the stories of those heroes buried at 11 cemeteries starting with the official Color Guard and ceremony on Dec. 15, 2018 at Savage Family Center 338 Conklin Ave Binghamton.  The Savage family celebrates its’ fifth year as location coordinator for Wreaths Across America and together with the community raised funds to honor and mark over 300 local graves of individuals buried their with the placement of sponsored veterans’ wreaths made of fresh Maine balsam. For every two wreaths sponsored Savage-Demarco Funeral Service provides a third wreath to benefit those veterans without local families.

 “The goal for Broome County was to raise enough funds to place 450 remembrance wreaths on the headstones to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country are not, and never will be, forgotten. Over 600 wreaths will be placed in Broome” Said Peter Savage, Broome Coordinator. “We continue to improve and grow every year, we have an Honor guard and Bagpiper for the ceremony” said Savage.
