Norwich (WIVT) – The man who has been serving 16 years as Chenango County District Attorney has announced his campaign for re-election.

Republican Joe McBride spoke to NewsChannel 34 outside the Chenango County Courthouse Thursday morning.

During his 30 years in the criminal justice system, McBride has worked as both a prosecutor and defense attorney.

He has worked over 1,600 felony cases, 60 jury trials and has personally prosecuted nearly all Chenango County homicides since 1999.

He said his work with the community is not just limited to the courtroom.

“I have been trying to keep Chenango County safe for the last 16 years as district attorney and I have been an active member of our community for the last 25 years, serving on many boards and community service activities. I take great pride in the job my staff and I do to keep Chenango County safe,” he said.

McBride was first elected to the District Attorney position in 1999 and has been re-elected in 2003, 2007, and 2011.

He is originally from Rockland County and is married with two sons.
