WINDSOR, N.Y. - Residents in Windsor are looking to restore a once frequented hotel back to its former glory.
The Windsor Community Restoration Organization (WCRO) has applied for $2,500 in grant funding from Broome County to restore the former Windsor Inn, located at 123 Main Street, across from the Town Hall.
The 180-year old building used to function as a hotel and tavern, but has since become a blighted apartment complex.
The WCRO wants to completely overhaul the structure and restore it to create an expanded housing facility.
WCRO President Jerry Redmon says the group wants start a renaissance in the Village.
"We're going to take one building at a time and concentrate on that. Once that building is upgraded and more productive for the community, we'll take another one and go after it. It's an ongoing process," said Redmon.
The $2,500 would be used for a feasibility study to determine the scope and cost of the project, which currently hovers around a million dollars.
The money is part of a county budget line dedicated to small community projects throughout Broome.
