Whitney Point alligator caught by the DEC, taken to Animal Adventure Park

The home of the world’s most famous giraffes will now also be the home of Broome County’s most famous alligator.

After several sightings near Whitney Point last week, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has captured an alligator it believes was once a pet.

It was found Saturday afternoon near the Whitney Point Fairgrounds.

The alligator was taken to the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, where it will permanently reside.

The staff at the park say the alligator is 3 feet 3 inches long and they look forward to educating people about the animal.

The alligator will enter into quarantine immediately, and then will be placed on exhibit.
