The Volunteers of America Upstate Chapter is celebrating its 122nd anniversary with a huge gift from the Home Depot.

The VOA held a news conference at its facility located at 320 Chenango Street to announce a $60,000 donation from the Johnson City Home Depot.

The money will be used for housing related to veterans in need.

The partnership between the VOA and Home Depot has been on-going for five years and the home improvement retailer has given over $200,000.

Store Manager Clinton Stratton says it’s the store’s mission to make a difference in the community.

“I think that’s why we’re so committed to doing this.  It improves the community as a whole, but veterans specifically have given us so much.  It’s in our core values to give back,” said Stratton.

Local students from Binghamton, Vestal, and Union-Endicott High Schools presented a donation of their own.

The three schools took part in a challenge to raise supplies such as toiletries, towels, and clothing for the VOA.
