BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Visit Binghamton is recognizing the importance of visitors to our area as National Tourism Week begins.
Tourism is the 3rd largest industry in New York State.
In 2017, traveler spending in Broome County was over 300 million dollars and tourism generated taxes saved every household in the county 470 dollars.
As part of the week, tomorrow there will be countywide hospitality training to share with workers in the industry information on various attractions.
Visit Binghamton Director Judi Hess says she's willing to work with anybody to promote the great things happening locally. "One of the things we're working on is doing destination weekends working with the Arts Council. I know Tech Works is doing a big celebration for the 50th year of the Apollo moon landing. So that's a weekend we're looking at creating something that will bring in more people and help get our name out there to more people."
Visit Binghamton will be hosting a Celebrity Bartending night at Dos Rios on Thursday from 4 to 6.
Hess along with County Executive Jason Garnar, Animal Adventure Owner Jordan Patch, Rumble Ponies Owner John Hughes and Nancy Barno Reynolds from the Arts Council will be behind the bar.
Tips raised that night support the United Cultural Fund which funds local arts organizations and community events that drive tourism.
