A restaurant that calls itself a traditional diner with a twist has expanded to meet growing demand.
The Village Diner on Floral Avenue in Johnson City doubled its space last year, adding additional seating and more room for food prep and storage.
Matt Smith bought the business three years ago and began steadily expanding the menu.
In addition to traditional fare, The Village Diner sports specials such as grilled burritos, pumpkin pancakes and Bananas Foster French Toast for breakfast and for lunch a grilled mac and cheese sandwich and a Thanksgiving stacker which is a complete turkey dinner on a sandwich.
“We kind of started out slowly with just putting 1 or 2 unique menu items on, as you saw in the chalk board menus and just added to them as we were inspired. And as they become fan favorites, we put them on the permanent menu. And we just kept adding more and more specials to that. I think we now have 22 specialty sandwiches and 17 specialty breakfast items on top of a full breakfast and lunch diner menu,” said Smith.
Smith says it’s also the sort of place where customers are always welcomed when entering and thanked on their way out.
The Village Diner is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lunch begins at 11 a.m. and breakfast is served all day.
