BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Broome County is doing its best to connect veterans with the services that they need.
The first ever Broome County Veterans Forum was held at the Broome County Library on Monday.
Veterans and their families were able to come and discuss their thoughts on the services that are and are not available for them.
Representatives from various local veterans service agencies were on hand to field questions and concerns.
Director of the Broome County Veteran's Service Agency Brian Vojtisek says that with 13,000 veterans in the county, it's important to hear straight from those that served.
"We realize that there are changing trends in veteran's populations. We have an aging veteran's population. So to meet those needs that's why we're having this meeting to hear directly from the veterans and what they want to see."
County Executive Jason Garnar says that as the only local municipality with a fund dedicated to providing for veterans, this forum will go a long way toward making sure those resources are used efficiently.
He says a portion of the mortgage tax on houses sold in the county provides the funding.
