High School students volunteered some of their time to give back to the community.
Students in Vestal High School’s International Baccalaureate classes took part in community action service projects. 26 of them volunteered at the Discovery Center.
Students helped with gardening, painting, and anything else that needed to be done to get it ready for the season. They also worked on clearing the space for the Reading Garden’s new attraction which will be an old pickup truck that kids will be able to explore. Vestal Senior Ruben Cuevas says it was great giving back to a place he enjoyed so much as a child.
Ruben Cuevas Vestal Senior says “I decided to come here today, I had 2 options but I wanted to come here today because the Discovery Center was actually a huge part of my childhood. I think it’s really cool how a lot of the exhibits are based on imagination. It was just a really integral part of my childhood experience and I just wanted to give back to that.”
Another group of students in Vestal’s IB program donated their time at CHOW’s warehouse. Students there sorted and packaged non-perishable food donations.
