UPDATE: Binghamton woman, 37, dies as result of hit-and-run

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Just days after police made an arrest, a Binghamton woman has died as a result of her injuries from a hit-and-run.

Binghamton Police say Amie Lewis, 37, died Wednesday morning.

She was struck Friday night while crossing the street at the intersection of Main and Murray Streets in Binghamton.

The vehicle that hit her continued without stopping, police say.

Lewis suffered severe head and internal injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Matthew Wood, 45, of Greene, was arrested Monday morning after being found on Lake Avenue in the First Ward.

He was charged with leaving the scene of a MVA with injuries, but Binghamton Police are now working with the Broome County District Attorney's Office to consider upgrading Wood's charge after Lewis's death.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
