Town of Owego family turns knack for baking into home business

Daffodil Hill Bakery opened on Day Hollow Road in September

TOWN OF OWEGO, N.Y. - A Town of Owego family has turned their knack for baking great pies into a home business.

Daffodil Hill Bakery opened on Day Hollow Road in September.

Sherry Bell and her three daughters, Debby Davis, Emma Squier and Sarah McCabe, converted a garage into a kitchen and sales counter and started turning out pies and other baked goods.

Using Sherry's mother's crust recipe, they make apple, Dutch apple, pumpkin, blueberry, peach, pecan, cherry-raspberry and lemon meringue.

Plus, every Friday they offer a test kitchen.

"It's free. We don't charge anybody anything for it. You can sign up, call, come in and you get a piece of a newly made pie that we've never made before," said Sherry Bell.

Tasters receive a coupon and are asked to fill out a survey.

Besides pies, Daffodil Hill bakes cinnamon buns, cookies and Grandma's chocolate cake.

It's open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To make a special order or check to see if your favorite flavor is on the shelf, call (607) 752-6291.

Sherry says if you're calling from a landline, you have to use the area code.
