BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Fans are making their way to NYSEG Stadium to make sure they see Tim Tebow on opening day.
NewsChannel 34 stopped by the stadium Thursday where people were periodically showing up to buy tickets.
City of Binghamton Economic Development Director Bob Murphy was purchasing four tickets for his sons for the first game of the season.
Murphy selected the special 3rd base line seats that includes a drink, sandwich, and ticket for $25.
Murphy says he's been reading up on the impact Tebow had in Columbia, South Carolina where he played at the Single-A Level
"There will be an economic impact from Tebow coming to Binghamton. Based on my research of what he did in Columbia, South Carolina, he clearly made a big impact in attendance and overall interest in baseball," said Murphy.
Roger Shaller of Binghamton also bought a few tickets to the Rumble Ponies home opener.
Shaller is a regular attendee of Binghamton baseball games and says he's excited to follow the former NFL Quarterback and Heisman Trophy Winner in a new sport.
"It'll be nice to see him play. I followed him when he played football and I have a lot of respect for the man," said Shaller.
There are still tickets available for the game, but most of the box seats are sold out.
Opening Day for the Rumble Ponies is next Thursday at NYSEG Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. weather permitting.
NewsChannel 34 will have live coverage prior to the game.
