HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. - Good news for fans of the world's most famous giraffe family, Tajiri isn't leaving Animal Adventure after all.
The park announced with great fanfare last month that the male calf, whose live-streamed birth was watched by millions around the world, would be moving to a facility under construction outside of Raleigh, North Carolina.
But Animal Adventure announced on its Facebook page over the weekend that deadlines and requirements were not met in time for his transfer down south.
Because Tajiri is not able to safely remain with his parents, construction for his new housing is already in progress.
The new pen will include space for an additional giraffe or companion animal.
Since his new home will occupy land for the planned exhibit the "Wilds of Asia," that expansion is being postponed for now.
Tajiri's new home is expected to take several weeks to complete, in time for the arrival of colder weather.
