This month marks the National March for Meals and Broome County is joining the campaign.
As part of the effort, the Broome County Office for Aging is asking the community to support the local Meals on Wheels programs by volunteering or donating.
Meals on Wheels delivers hot and healthy meals to seniors still living in their homes.
In 2018, over 228 thousand meals were delivered in Broome by the program.
Without the over 100 volunteers that prepare and deliver meals daily, the program would not be able to work.
James Jones has been one of those volunteers for the past 25 years and he says it’s been an absolute joy helping his community. “I figured the Lord has blessed me with good health and a fine family and I could share it with others. Seeing as there are so many people me out there that don’t even have the common food, I just felt that it was something I should do my share and help other people.”
