Students at SUNY Broome were using what they learned in the classroom to prepare for the worst.
The college held its annual Mock Environmental Disaster.
From a mysterious bus crash to a stage collapse and multiple car crashes, SUNY Broome students have tackled all of these and more to hone their skills as first responders and medical professionals.
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Emergency Services Jim Sheerin says this simulation provides great hands-on experience. “It helps them get a taste of what an actual major incident would be like. Working through the confusion, the pandemonium, injuries, and screaming and so forth that can be a part of these incidents.”
Students from programs across the campus including nursing, criminal justice, and emergency services took part in the event.
Members of the community also participated in the action including Chenango Fire, the Tioga County Health Department and Broome Ambulance.
