State Police remember their own

State Police took time to remember their own today.

A couple hundred friends, family and community members joined Troop C of the New York State Police for their annual memorial ceremony at the barracks in Unadilla to recognize officers lost in the line of duty along with retirees.

Since 1917 all State Police Troops in New York have held this event.

Troop C Major Brian Shortall says it’s about honoring the sacrifice officers everywhere have made.

“I would hope that they would recognize that these people everyday put their lives in danger to go out there and make it safe for them. When they call, they come, doesn’t matter what time of day or night it is they respond. It is a dangerous environment they’re working in but they don’t shy away from that danger they go out and do their job.”

One of the retirees in attendance was Frank Amendola.

Amendola is the oldest living retiree of Troop C, he served 18 years for the state police after serving in the U.S military.
