The Red Cross is working to stay ahead of another potential natural disaster.
The Southern Tier Chapter relocated its disaster warehouse from an old war-time storage depot next to Chenango Valley High School to a facility in Vestal.
Disaster response items such as cots, tents, generators, and other sheltering supplies were moved by Rogers Trucking to the new location.
Red Cross Volunteer Chuck Haupt says the move to the Vestal warehouse allows for easier access.
“If we experience a flood again like we did in 2011 we need to be ready and open up shelters at a moments notice. This way we can get our trucks right to the new location in Vestal and immediately put up all the supplies we would need to open up a shelter,” said Haupt.
Haupt adds that it is important for any area to be prepared for a disaster.
But an area that has had two major floods in the past 12 years needs to take on extra precaution.
