Some local high school seniors were honored for their excellence in the classroom.

SUNY Broome President Kevin Drumm presented the Frank G Paul Medal of Excellence in Math and Science to high school seniors in the region.

The award recognizes the top scoring male and female students in math and science from 15 area school districts.

Trinity Purdy was one of the recipients from Vestal.

She will be heading to SUNY Broome next year majoring in civil engineering.

Purdy says she has a passion for civil engineering and being honored with this award was an assurance that she’s getting into the right field.

Trinity Purdy Vestal Senior says “I was pretty shocked I didn’t really know what I did to get an award like this. It’s a pretty big honor for only 2 people to be receiving it from our school. It boosts my confidence a lot more and it makes me feel ready to go into the field.”

Since Purdy is attending SUNY Broome she is also being considered for the Francis and Lillian Paul Scholarship for SUNY Broome’s Engineering Science Program.

Each recipient was given a medal and cash award.
