Sled hockey concludes a Special Hockey Festival at the Arena

Local News

A Special Hockey Festival, hosted by Broome Includes, finished with a sled hockey display at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Sled hockey is predominately played by people with lower body disabilities.

Almost all the rules are the same as regular hockey, except players are in a sled and the 2 picks they use to move their sled also double as their sticks.

Chuck Gridley serves as the CNY Flyers coach and as a USA Hockey Disabled Coaching Representative. He says sled hockey has made the game accessible for many more people. Gridley says that sled hockey is a rapidly growing game and that a city with a rich hockey history such as Binghamton is prime to start a team.

Over 260 players and their families came to the Arena from across the country and even Canada to play this weekend.
