The Girl Scouts have recognized a SUNY Broome professor for her service to women and the community.
Psychology and Human Services Professor Margherita Rossi was given the Girl Scouts 2019 Woman of Distinction award today during a special breakfast event today at the DoubleTree Hotel in Binghamton.
Rossi founded SUNY Broome’s Women’s INstiitute and has served on the United Way board and supported the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of South Central New York.
Rossi says that while she was a Brownie but never a Girl Scout, she admires the qualities that the organization promotes.
“Character development, the confidence, the courage that Girl Scouts imbues in them. So, I think that they should carry that with them. The ideals of the Girl Scouts are ideals that all women should aspire to and live by,” Rossi says.
The breakfast raises money for scholarships for Girl Scouts Gold Award recipients, some of whom were in attendance today.
