Local law enforcement is preparing to honor fallen officers starting next month during its annual Police Week.
Members of the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Memorial Association held a news conference at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office to announce the week-long series of events.
It begins on Friday April 26th with the annual Police Memorial Hockey Game at the Ice House in Chenango Bridge.
On Sunday April 28th, there will be a non-denominational memorial church service at 3:00 PM at Saint Vincent De Paul Church in Vestal.
Then on Monday the 29th, a memorial service and flag raising ceremony outside the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.

Retired Johnson City Police Officer Paul Burnett is the president of STLEMA.
He says the organization is carrying on a tradition that began in 1982.
“The idea is that these police officers are not forgotten. Once a year, if we bring this to the public, their families will see that they have not been forgotten,” Burnett says.
Other Police Week activities include a memorial breakfast on Tuesday April 30th at the Holiday Inn Binghamton.
Then a golf tournament on May 1st at the Links at Hiawatha.
The week concludes with law enforcement displays at the Oakdale Mall on Friday and Saturday May 3rd and 4th, including a dive tank and K-9 demonstrations.
